- Description: One Species. Three Histories. One Unfinished Question. Human beings built the pyramids, organized Auschwitz, and reached the Moon. The same species. Extraordinary intelligence. Radically different purposes. What explains this?
- Author: Khaled Salih

Human beings built the pyramids, organized Auschwitz, and reached the Moon.

The same species. Extraordinary intelligence. Radically different purposes.

What explains this?

Reading Michael Shermer’s new book, *Truth*, brought me back to a question that has followed me through my research on *anfāl*, the genocide of the Yezidis, and the political future of Kurdistan.

Why can highly intelligent people and sophisticated institutions become so effective at pursuing destructive ideas—and so resistant to correcting them?

In my new essay, *Truth and Its Future*, I develop two conjectures: **Capability–Correction Divergence** and **Future Sovereignty**.

The first asks why humanity's power to transform the world can increase without a corresponding capacity to challenge its purposes.

The second asks what present generations owe those who will inherit the consequences of their decisions.

Drawing on Michael Shermer, Karl Popper, and David Deutsch, I explore why truth matters, why intelligence cannot guarantee rationality, and why the future must remain open to explanations nobody has yet created.

This is not an argument with a final answer. It is an invitation to discover where the explanation fails—and whether something better can replace it.
